Understanding Histamine
When histamine information begins making food and supplements feel frightening, understanding can create a steadier place to begin.

A Gentle Place to Begin
Understanding Histamine is an IndigoKoi Wellness, LLC client education resource created to help you make sense of histamine, food, supplements, and symptoms without rushing into unnecessary restriction.
Histamine is a normal signaling molecule used by the body in immune responses, digestion, nervous-system communication, and wakefulness. The goal is not to create a histamine-free body. The more useful question is whether a pattern of symptoms deserves thoughtful observation and, when appropriate, medical evaluation.
What This Guide Helps You Explore
The guide explains the difference between suspected histamine intolerance, food allergy, and mast-cell conditions; how DAO and HNMT participate in histamine metabolism; why freshness, fermentation, aging, and storage can matter; and why symptoms should not be reduced to a single universal food list.
It also untangles common supplement confusion. Vitamin B6 in its active PLP form participates as a cofactor in histamine synthesis, but that does not mean a B6 supplement contains histamine or automatically causes histamine excess. Niacin can produce a flushing response depending on its form and dose, while vitamin B5 has a different metabolic role altogether.
Add Before You Remove™
At IndigoKoi Wellness, we begin with understanding, observation, nourishment, and appropriate support before asking the body to tolerate another layer of restriction. Add Before You Remove™ does not mean that nothing should ever be removed. It means the decision deserves context.
A useful sequence is: observe, record, look for patterns, discuss, trial thoughtfully when appropriate, reintroduce, and personalize.
Your Next Step
If food reactions, supplement ingredients, or changing symptoms have left you second-guessing what your body is telling you, Your Soft Landing Place offers a private, trauma-informed space to slow the conversation down and organize the questions that deserve further attention.
